1930s–1950s: A Place for Livelihood
The building traces its roots to 1935, when Will Poole and “Chief” Lawson built it as a feed store. For decades it served Jasper’s agricultural economy—known locally as the Master Mix Feed Store—and later housed L&W Trucking, a company that transported marble dust from Pickens County’s quarries.
1970s–1990s: City Hall, Firehouse, and Jail
By 1974, Jasper Mayor Lee Newton had transformed the property into the city’s hub of civic life. Within these walls operated City Hall, the City Jail, the Police and Fire Departments, and the Water Department. For nearly two decades, the property was the backdrop for public service, decision-making, and community safety
1992–2024: Hensley’s Service Center
In the early 1990s, entrepreneur Harold Hensley purchased the property, having already run several service stations and car washes in the area. For the next thirty years, Hensley’s Service Center became a trusted spot for brake, muffler, and shock repairs—a place where neighbors came not just for service, but for conversation and connection. Alongside it, the space also welcomed small shops including antiques, fabric, and computer repair.
Today: A New Chapter
In 2024, the building began a new life under Terry Commercial Realty, LLC. Preserved historic elements—such as marble tile walls, original jail doors, and sidewalk bricks—remain part of its character. Outside, new flower gardens, a monument sign, and benches have already begun to transform the site into a gathering place.
